Timber Follies Ι & ΙΙ
This vision blends architectural test models with graphite hand drawings, introducing a world of design possibilities. The work is generative, speculative. The three-dimensional structures, depicted in various geometric orientations, take on new life, showcasing a multitude of modelled opportunities.
Rooted in collage principles and composition, the work explores experimental design solutions and the use of structural timber in construction. Rigid boundaries in the cityscape are challenged in order to promote fluid and dynamic uses of space.
The structures intrude and inhabit an abstracted urban environment which is shaped by a collection of photographs of the city of Manchester. They demand space, which is given to them through the visual manipulation of their surroundings to resemble a topographical privacy diagram. The project is a response to the architectural visualization challenges of what cannot be measured. Private and public sectors, the interactions between them and socio-economic circumstances are diagrammatically documented.
This allegorical architectural design proposal series is a form of research and note taking. Drawing is used to express rather than to represent, to warp the technical representational plans used in practice.
